The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority plays a unique role in the State of Illinois. It manages federal grant money and also facilitates some research on criminal justice issues in the State. Oddly enough the Authority’s leader was extremely against our Sexual Assault Task Force. He had to be pushed to attend a meeting by the co-chairs and then after committing to staying the entire time left after maybe a half hour. How he, given the position he was in, was against studying the response to sexual assault from the Chicago and Cook County justice system is beyond us. But that fact alone should tell you about the role politics plays in justice research in Chicago.
Here is the Freedom of Information Act request we filed on June 27, 2017 with the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority seeking records related to justice data they maintain from Chicago & Cook County justice agencies.
