Where Interns, Volunteers, & Professionals Drive Real Justice Reform

CJP’s Nation Program brings together passionate interns, volunteers, and skilled professionals to challenge the culture of secrecy in local justice systems.

Nation members gain hands-on experience with CJP’s work in research, public policy, data analysis, and public education, all while directly supporting our mission to expand transparency in policing and justice agencies nationwide.

Whether you’re a student seeking real-world impact, a professional wanting to contribute your expertise, or a community member looking to get involved, Nation offers a collaborative, mission-driven environment where your work truly matters.

What Nation Members Do:

Interns and volunteers work in small project teams and get practical exposure to a wide range of CJP activities, including:

  • Conducting research on local criminal justice systems across the U.S.
  • Preparing and filing public records requests to gather data from justice agencies.
  • Supporting policymakers on transparency and criminal justice reform efforts.
  • Assisting the Executive Director with organizational and mission-driven tasks.


All roles are virtual/remote, unpaid, and centered on meaningful, collaborative project work.

Opportunities for Professionals

For professionals looking to contribute their skills to support CJP’s mission, we’re currently seeking assistance in the following areas:

  • Web Development
  • Data Analysis
  • Fundraising & Development Support
  • Audio Production for our podcast
  • Video Production & Editing for YouTube and social media


Professionals play a crucial role by lending specialized expertise that strengthens our capacity and enhances the impact of our research and advocacy.

Time Commitments

School-Year Interns:

  • 12-15 hours per week
  • Eligible for internship credit

Summer Interns:

  • 15-20 hours per week
  • Eligible for internship credit

Volunteers:

  • 3-month minimum commitment
  • Flexible schedule, as little as 5 hours per week

Professionals:

  • Flexible, project-based contributions
