On Monday morning, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that 40 people were injured and five people were killed this weekend by gun violence in Chicago. The headline of the Sun-Times article read “After violent weekend, Chicago closing in on 200 homicides just four month into the year.” Fox published the same story from the Sun-Times Media Wire.
As usual, the Sun-Times, CBS Local, and Fox Chicago covered gun violence in Chicago over the weekend by keeping track of incidents beginning at 5 pm on Friday and publishing an updated tally of shootings over the course of the weekend until 5 am on Monday. This past weekend the Chicago Tribune published an article on Saturday morning summarizing incidents of gun violence from Friday night. NBC Local published a similar article on Saturday afternoon from the Sun-Times media wire that summarized the events of Friday night. On Sunday, NBC Local published another article from the Sun-Times media wire detailing all incidents of gun violence since Friday night beginning at 5 pm. Over the past few months, news outlets like NBC Local and the Tribune have increasingly published articles summarizing incidents of gun violence from one night or the whole of the weekend. It is significant to note that WGN TV published 14 articles covering gun violence in Chicago this weekend. This is a substantial increase from previous weeks. Each article covered a specific incident of gun violence, but the outlet did not publish an article summarizing the events of the weekend.

CBS, the Sun-Times, the Tribune, Fox, and NBC all published stories stating that the second man charged in the shooting of Jaslyn Adams has been denied bail. It is also significant to note that ABC Local published zero stories covering local gun violence in Chicago this weekend.
