Sexual Assault Data Practices and Transparency Task Force

This page will provide up to date information on the Sexual Assault Data Practices and Transparency Task Force that CJP is convening.

Task Force Mission

Promoting the use of best practices in the data capturing and releasing policies of the criminal justice agencies in Chicago and Cook County regarding their response to sexual assault through the use of data driven and evidence based analysis of their current practices.

Goals

  • To increase the amount, quality, and thoroughness of the data collected by each agency in their felony sex crime case processing.
  • To increase the amount & quality of data that is collected at specific discretion points within each agency’s handling of felony sex crimes cases.
  • To increase the amount, quality, and thoroughness of the data each agency releases related to their felony sex crimes case processing.
  • To increase the level of cooperation between all three agencies in how they collect, maintain, and release data related to felony sex crime case processing.
  • To create a consensus between advocates, researchers, and the agencies about what data fields should be withheld for legitimate privacy concerns and what data should be made available regularly to inform communities.
  • To produce a report mapping each agency’s data collection, maintaining, and release practices regarding their felony sex crimes case processing.
